Customers at Lip Lab at Irvine’s Spectrum Center can create their own unique lipstick using a variety of carefully selected and balanced ingredients and with the help of lipstick experts. To capture the company’s modern, sassy, and creative identity, Lip Lab combined the bright, sterile lighting of a “lab,” gleaming off beakers and glass, and transported it into the world of fashion by combining it with deep red walls, bright pops of color, and plush, lip-shaped pillows.

This “ring” of light above the work station is actually an illusion, created using a NanoTex Shape pendant fixture in a large C-shape installed against a mirror that spans the back wall of the space. The aluminum frame was custom made to achieve the affect of a perfect circle when installed, incorporating both the curve of the semicircle as well as 90-degree corners to lie flush against the wall. It was designed to mimic the shape of the workstation counter below, with even the white of the surface and gray of the support mirroring the white textile and aluminum frame. As an added bonus, the mirror doubles the amount of light in the space, keeping it feeling airy and spacious.

The single, seamless, cold-stretch textile lens provides perfectly even, consistent lighting above each station, communicating the equal importance of each customer; no matter where a customer is sitting, they’ll have the same clear vision of their project. The clean, crisp static white LEDs allow customers to create their bespoke lip color with accuracy, a must when it comes to creating the perfect shade.
