Spyscape is an espionage museum and event space offering fun, educational activities and exhibits centered around the history and technology of spying. It’s also an immersive experience where visitors get to try their hand at some espionage of their own via number of puzzles, tests, and activities, complete with a final debrief about their personal spy strengths. The space was designed to capture the experience of mystery and discovery, and took inspiration from some of the world’s most legendary intelligence organizations.

In order for visitors to find their way around the museum and complete their “secret mission,” the museum needed a wayfinding system that was clear to visitors of all ages while maintaining the sleek, futuristic aesthetic of the space. Embedding that system into the floor seemed like the perfect solution — it wouldn’t take up more space and was strikingly eyecatching.
But there was a problem: the current system was using SPI, so fixtures further from the power source were experiencing interference and failing. On top of that, the concrete floors had already been poured, meaning the channels and the cabling were rigidly fixed in place and impossible to alter easily.

At the time of this project, development of linear Pixel Control LED fixtures was in full swing at Nanometer, so they were called in for their known expertise.
Using the preexisting infrastructure was a challenge, but Nanometer’s flexible linear LED products and Pixel Controls were able to rise to it.
Nanometer used a NanoFlex fixture set into the channels with a custom gear tray and protected by a durable lens. Pixel Control programming created directional pulses of light to guide visitors along their espionage experience.
Pixel Control allows for perfectly timed and spaced light animations that remain fluid and consistent regardless of how far from the power source they might be. This means that visitors are always able to navigate the space without confusion.
