Roku

Roku’s Times Square location balances clean minimalism with bold statements for a look that’s modern and full of personality. The office combines conference and communal workspaces with private ones and uses acoustical material throughout for a sense of calm and privacy. Their white and gray color scheme allows the Roku brand purple to stand out, while natural wood tones keep the space feeling warm.

The display: One prominent feature of the office is this display wall featuring 35 Roku Ultra devices, each with its own colored backlighting for extra impact. Located in a visitor area, the wall is a tantalizing invitation to examine the devices, and turns the Roku Ultra into an unexpected piece of art.

To create the colored backlighting for the devices, Nanometer created a custom build using a 4” x 4” metal mounting box with fully enclosed cabling for each of the 35 Roku Ultra devices. LEDs are mounted to the back of the box so that when the box is mounted to the wall, the result is a reflected halo of colored light.

Pixel Controls allow for the RGBW LEDs to be fully programmable. In this case, the lights gently pulse a contrasting color, drawing attention to the display and the Roku Ultra products, but never becoming distracting.

The colored light display, as well as the screen displays around the office, are directly inspired by the surrounding Times Square and its iconic array of animated billboards and light installations.

The reception area: Following that theme, the reception desk also features a subtle illumination: a NanoFlex Dual Bend fixture in a cool, futuristic violet mounted underneath the circular desk for a lit-from-within effect that makes the white of the desk appear to glow, and underscores not only Roku’s brand colors and themse of network and connectivity.
