LIM College, in keeping with values of celebrating unique style, wanted a striking, unexpected lighting installation for their Maxwell Hall student space. Using the NanoFlex Dual Bend fixture with RGBW LEDs for a pop of color, Nanometer created a sinuous, illuminated path of light that flows and swoops through the space, connecting rooms and levels as both a lighting and a wayfinding element.

The design of parallel tracks of light that occasionally cross and rearrange along their journey call to mind New York’s subway maps and also reflects the historic industrial elements of the building. The result evokes concepts of forward motion, connection, and growth. Because the Dual Bend can be installed in long, continuous runs, the design didn’t have to compromise any length or be interrupted by distracting joins. The top- and side-bending flexible silicone extrusions mean that the fixtures can be manipulated along two axes for a variety of effects, while still being lightweight enough to be suspended from the ceiling.

LIM wanted a specific shade of pink that matched their branding, so this Dual Bend fixture’s LEDs were custom designed to achieve that particular hue. The result is a fixture that dims just like a static white LED fixture, but in a custom color.



While not the main source of light in the space, which serves as a resource center and meeting place, the NanoFlex feature also serves as a decorative accent that celebrates the unique and artistic visions of the students.
