Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank’s lobby was less than welcoming. The building experienced limited sunlight, and the gloom was only exacerbated by dark finishes. To combat this, One Lux created a new design that filled this uninviting space with light and visual interest. They imagined a textured ceiling using 18-inch acrylic baffles by Lucas Lighting and concealed Nanometer NanoLine fixtures providing both up- and down-lighting. Not only did the unexpected texture make for an interesting and elegant ceiling solution, but the downward facing NanoLine fixtures aim through the baffles to create diffused lighting for a soft, welcoming atmosphere.

The transformation of the lobby was so dramatic that the project earned a Lumen Citation for Ceiling Feature in 2022.

The downward facing NanoLine fixtures feature high output LEDs to fully penetrate the acrylic baffles and create the effect of a luminous edge. Meanwhile, medium output LEDs face upwards towards the concrete ceiling to wash it in a softer light for an even, diffuse glow. The result is a comforting lack of harsh shadows or dark areas.

The fully luminous ceiling makes up for the lack of natural light in this space. To make it feel even airier, tunable white LEDs were selected so a circadian rhythm of warm and cool light could be used in the space, alternating between warm tones in the late night and early morning and brighter, cooler white in the middle of the day. This helps the lobby feel less cut off from the outside world.

Meanwhile, the baffles, arranged perpendicular to the wood grain on the walls and floors and the finish of the welcome desk, create a dynamic contrast to the directionality of the rest of the room.
